Overview
Hey this is Rohit (CEO/co-founder) writing this. I find most JDs to be quite impersonal and bland. We do things a bit differently here at String. So to start off, I appreciate you for taking the time to read this and for considering us.
We’re building the best infrastructure for humans and agents to use the web. Until now, using the web meant clicking through a browser by hand. That’s quickly giving way to using agents that search for information, take actions, and build datasets. String’s universal API lets our customers do all of this across billions of pages, on a web that was never designed for machines.
Customers ranging from the world’s largest hedge funds to seed-stage startups use String to access hundreds of millions of web pages per week (that’s literally 100+ pages every second).
We’re generating 7 figures in ARR from financial services with no sales people. We have found initial PMF and are now hiring to accelerate growth. We’ve done everything so far with a lean engineering team and we recently raised a round from leading VCs and angels in our space (Auren Hoffman, Charlie Songhurst, and many more).
Half of our sales so far have come inbound and we haven’t churned a customer. We are known in financial services as the best product and therefore have many financial institutions reaching out to work with us.
We work with dozens of the top hedge funds, VCs, and banks in the world including 6 of the 10 largest hedge funds.
We are looking for the right person to lead our financial services business as we expand to more verticals! This will be a very entrepreneurial job where you’re responsible for growing the FS business while making the product more valuable for clients.
What do we do for financial services
Today any HF/VC/Bank that wants to collect web data has to jump through many hoops:
- Build infrastructure to send thousands of requests to websites
- Build technology to avoid getting detected as a bot (very hard to do at scale)
- Code individual scripts for every website they want to scrape
- Fix all those scripts as websites change, and
- Ensure consistent data quality across runs
Due to all these challenges, web data is very different from other straightforward datasets they ingest like credit card data. We solve all these problems for them so that they never have to worry about their web data pipelines.
As a result, we 1) significantly improve their data pipelines and therefore decisions driving millions in revenue and 2) save them millions of dollars in engineering costs of building it themselves.
Building this would have been impossible before the AI revolution. We have a unique opportunity to build the first platform where they can collect structured data across any website with just a prompt. And we’re excited to be at the forefront of solving this problem for our customers.
What will you do
- Own the FS P&L: revenue, margins, pricing, and the annual plan
- Set FS strategy: which segments and clients to go after, and which datasets and products to invest in
- Hire and lead the FS team as the business grows
- Own relationships with all FS clients ($1T+ AUM) and new opportunities in the pipeline
- Build new features and products for FS in Claude Code (engineers will get it to prod)
- Educate clients on existing datasets and tools we’ve built that would be valuable to them
Who are we looking for
Note: We’re always willing to bet on young, high-slope people. So even if you don’t fit all these, feel free to apply with a note on why you think you’d still be a good fit.
- Successfully owned a P&L before or run a business unit or company end to end, including hiring and managing a team
- 4+ years in financial services or data sales, with a record of building pipeline and closing deals
- Comfortable building with Claude Code and can be a 10x contributor (see list above)
- Can sell to both technical data folks and non-technical PMs
- Based in or willing to move to NYC
Nice to haves:
- Prior data science or engineering experience
- Worked at an alt data company before
Why join us
It’s not often that a startup is hiring someone to lead an entire business unit after hitting 7 figures in ARR while in the initial stages of PMF. You’ll own P&L, hiring, sales, product, pricing, and so much more at a fast-paced startup with the best product in the category. We (founders) want someone who can run the FS business end to end so we can focus on expanding to new verticals.
For the right person, this will be an opportunity for immense career growth to be entrepreneurial without taking the typical 0 to 1 risk. You’ll be responsible for going from 1 to 10 which will be invaluable for the rest of your career. We believe you’ll build the skills to be a 10x asset to any company you join in the future - the type of person that hot startups want to bring in to their founding team.

Compensation
We’re building an exceptional team and so want to be generous on compensation. Our philosophy is that base compensation is for living expenses and equity is for upside. We want you to be able to give your all and benefit proportionately from your contributions, without worrying about living expenses.
So our compensation structure is a base salary competitive with other early-stage startups and generous equity relative to other startups. We know that part of the excitement of joining a startup is the upside and to feel like an owner - that’s why we left our corporate jobs.
More concrete information:
- $150-200k base, $300k OTE. You pick the mix of base and commission. Commission is uncapped with accelerators. Equity (0.5-1%) and we’re flexible on trading cash for equity.
